About us

Ubiquity Press is an open access publisher of peer-reviewed, academic journals. Our flexible publishing model makes humanities journals affordable, and enables researchers around the world to find and access the information they need, without barriers.

UCL AdvancesUbiquity Press began publishing at University College London and is now the largest open access publisher of UCL journals. We are operating as a spin-off, based on campus in the UCL Advances Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Interaction, in the Business Hatchery.

Researcher led

Ubiquity Press was founded by researchers for researchers. We are committed to making scholarly research more widely available on the web, and our services are developed in close collaboration with the academic community.

Editorial integrity

Quality of information and rigorous editorial integrity are at the core of our journals. Each journal is managed by an expert editorial team, who have a duty to maintain editorial and ethical standards. Publication decisions are based solely on the quality, novelty, and educational value of articles, all of which are carefully peer-reviewed.

A global and ethical approach

We believe that every effort should be taken to ensure equality of information for researchers, regardless of location or economical situation. Equally, we believe that encouraging collaboration between researchers around the world can help to enhance knowledge.

BOAIUbiquity Press is a signatory of the Budapest Open Access Initiative, which states that open access is: “…the world-wide electronic distribution of the peer-reviewed journal literature and completely free and unrestricted access to it by all scientists, scholars, teachers, students, and other curious minds. Removing access barriers to this literature will accelerate research, enrich education, share the learning of the rich with the poor and the poor with the rich, make this literature as useful as it can be, and lay the foundation for uniting humanity in a common intellectual conversation and quest for knowledge.”

Open access policy

All electronic journals and books published by Ubiquity Press may be freely accessed by anyone, anywhere. Authors agree to the following terms:

  • Authors retain copyright and grant Ubiquity Press the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication with Ubiquity Press.
  • Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in the Ubiquity Press publication.
  • Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as well as following publication.

The Ubiquity Press model

Our open access publishing model is fundamentally different to that of traditional publishers. Instead of taking over the rights to research and then selling access to it for profit, we only take payment for the service of publication. All electronic content is then made freely available, to the widest possible audience. The costs of printed material are paid only by those who require it.
